The foundation for child development
Our UTCS families, our teachers, and our neighbors are all bricks in the foundation we build to support and enrich the development of our UTCS students. We believe the stronger this foundation is the more successful our students will be, both in their learning and in their readiness to navigate the transitions ahead of them. So we put a lot of focus on creating great community. You'll see it in the events we host, the field trips we take, and in all the daily interactions inside our classrooms.
Great beginnings for great beginnings!
We kick off each school year with an evening potluck and open house. We invite families to come get to know each other, their children’s teachers and classrooms.
A very pressing engagement!
In early October we gather together to press our own fresh apple cider. Everyone comes with a bag of apples, and leaves with a smile and some new memories…along with some cider.
Spooky fun for the whole family
Every year the UTCS community gets all dressed up for Halloween! We march throughout school in a parade of strange creatures before heading out to meet our families for a stroll around the block. Businesses in the area look forward to waving at all the children in their wonderful costumes during our annual Halloween Parade proceeded by a treat-filled Halloween party on the play yard.
Celebrating fall's bounty!
A potluck-style feast to send families off into Thanksgiving break. Families gather for lunch around dishes that reflect our families’ diverse backgrounds and family cultures.
Celebrating the UW's cherry blossoms!
Each year the cherry blossoms bloom on the University of Washington Campus and we feel lucky to be located so close to campus. We pack up some blankets and a light snack and walk all the children over to the quad for a late afternoon picnic. Families are invited to join their children during a spectacular display of nature.
UTCS takes over Magnuson Park!
Families load up and head to Magnuson Park to grill and enjoy the Seattle Sunshine with friends, family and community members.
Preschool Picassos!
Our preschool program puts an art show on each spring displaying their growth and appreciation for different types of art. Family, friends and community are invited to come and see all of their hard work throughout their annual Art Camp.
Our board is never boring!
Our Parent Board Social Committee puts on a series of events and fundraisers throughout the year that reflect the current culture of our community.
Putting the Fun in Fundraiser!
We participate in an annual book fair fundraiser through the University Bookstore during the holiday season. In 2019, we had our first annual auction, which will be held each year in September. We also have a yearly ASK Campaign, where our goal is to raise money for various parts of our school.
